Steps to Health 2026

Steps to Health is an annual HSE staff health & wellbeing initiative that aims to engage staff in a 5 week step challenge, encouraging increased physical activity to support both physical and mental health.

This year’s challenge will take place over 5 weeks, from Monday 11th May to Sunday 14th June. Registration will remain open until Monday 11th May at 5pm.

Most of us already take somewhere between 3,000 and 5,000 steps each day. The challenge encourages you to build on that, with a broad goal of around 10,000 steps, but there’s no pressure to hit a perfect number.  Even small bursts of movement matter. A 10 minute walk can make a real difference.    If you’re starting from a lower activity level, that’s absolutely fine, it’s about building gradually, not doing everything at once.

Easy to Sign Up

  • Form a team of between 2 and 10 participants.
  • Choose a team co-ordinator and team name.
  • Register your co-ordinator and your team online.
  • Use a tracking device to count your steps during the challenge.
  • If you have restricted mobility or are a wheelchair user, measure your physical activity levels using tracking devices or an app on your phone.
