National Clinical Programme for Diabetes Technology Networking Event

Funded by the HSE Integrated Care Programme for Chronic Disease and coordinated by the National Clinical Programme for Diabetes and Marie Gatley, Diabetes Care West, the event, held on October 10th at the Sheraton Hotel Athlone, was aimed at multidisciplinary Specialist Acute Care Diabetes teams from across Ireland. It aimed to upskill participants while enhancing their confidence and competence in integrating diabetes technology and e-health solutions into their care pathways.

The event featured 20 speakers with a strong emphasis on real-life case studies, illustrating how technology and collaborative multidisciplinary approaches can enhance outcomes in diabetes care. Presentations covered diverse topics, including:

Local implementation of insulin pump pathways and continuous glucose monitors.
Delivery of telehealth services and alignment with structured diabetes education.
Enhancing inpatient care through technology and updates on HSE procurement policies.

There were 110 delegates from all 6 Regional Health Areas with representatives from dietetics, medicine, and nursing. The event evaluation was overwhelmingly positive with improvements in knowledge, and 90% expressed their intention to implement positive changes locally as a result of attending the event.
