The Get Active Programme launches on the HSE Health App

The Get Active Programme was recently launched at a national webinar on the 16th April, marking its introduction on the HSE Health App.

Physical activity is one of the most important things we can do for our health, yet over half of adults are not meeting recommended guidelines.

Regular movement reduces the risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and some cancers. It also improves mental wellbeing, sleep, and energy levels. But knowing we “should” be active and knowing how to start are often two very different things.

To help bridge that gap, the Healthy Eating Active Living Programme have developed  the Get Active Programme, initially only available on the HSE Health App, to support people to become more active.

The free 10 week programme provides structured, evidence-based support to help people gradually increase their physical activity levels. It is suitable for beginners, those returning to activity, and anyone looking for practical guidance to meet the National Physical Activity and Sedentary Behaviour Guidelines, Every Move Counts.

These guidelines, encourage adults to aim for at least 2 hours and 30 minutes of aerobic physical activity across the week. This should also include muscle-strengthening activities on two days per week, and reducing time spent sedentary. The Get Active Programme includes a walking plan, muscle-strengthening exercises, and a free Get Active Pack.

Access Get Active using the HSE Health App because Every Move Counts.
