Consultation with Service Users and Service Providers to Inform the Delivery of Integrated Alcohol Services

The HSE Alcohol Programme are inviting people to take part anonymously in a research study that is being conducted by researchers at Trinity College Dublin, led by Professor Catherine Comeskey. The aim of this study is to provide an evidence informed consultation of alcohol services with a focus on accessibility, partnership, experience of using and delivering services and views on how services should be delivered within these contexts. The findings from this study will be used to inform the delivery of new Integrated Alcohol Services.

The Primary Objectives are:

  1. To consult with individuals and service providers with the lived experience in defined geographic regions (Cork, Midwest, Galway city, Mayo and North Dublin) to explore:
    • Positive and/or negative experiences of alcohol services.
    • Experiences of partnership working across alcohol services.
    • Experiences of the accessibility of alcohol services.
    • Views on how new alcohol services should be delivered
    • Engagement in rural and isolated communities where alcohol is identified as a risk.

Service providers will be based in a wide range of settings including addiction services, primary care, hospitals, and other relevant community and voluntary services. Service users will have accessed alcohol services within the previous 5 years.

2. To produce a report synthesising the consultation findings and present the findings to the Integrated Alcohol Services Working Group in the HSE.

Each of the services are at various stages of implementation, with most of the services having recently commenced service delivery. The HSE Alcohol Programme wishes to consult with individuals who have used alcohol and/or substance use services on their views and experiences of alcohol services in order to help inform how the new services will be delivered.

The consultation with individuals with the lived experience will primarily take place via an online survey, which includes closed and open-ended questions.

We would appreciate it if you could share this with individuals who have used alcohol and/or substance use services.

Who should complete the survey:

  • A person who has used alcohol-related services within the last year
  • OR a family member/friend/supporter of a person who has used alcohol-related services within the last year
  • OR a person who has not used but has thought of or tried using alcohol-related services within the last year.

The survey should take less than 15 minutes to complete.
