HSE Health and Wellbeing is proud to support the launch of ‘Breathe’, a major new public health exhibition at the Humanarium, located within the RCSI University of Medicine and Health Sciences on St Stephen’s Green, Dublin. As an official Community Partner, the HSE is supporting this initiative to promote public understanding of respiratory health, clean air, and prevention.
The interactive exhibition explores the incredible science behind the roughly 20,000 breaths we take every day. Through an engaging blend of scientific insights, expert commentary, and deeply moving lived experiences, ‘Breathe’ takes visitors on a journey through the respiratory system. It highlights what happens when breathing becomes difficult and demonstrates how modern medical treatments can support patients to live full, active lives. The exhibition draws on expertise from researchers and clinicians including from our Tobacco Free Ireland (TFI) programme to provide trusted information on conditions including asthma, lung cancer and cystic fibrosis.
The TFI programme is working with RCSI on a number of HSE funded pieces of research which aim to co-design a vaping and nicotine cessation service for people who want to quit vaping and nicotine products.

A core focus of ‘Breathe’ is environmental health, illustrating how air quality directly affects our hearts, brains, and nervous systems. Visitors can learn about the collective responsibility to protect clean air and find practical, everyday choices to support long-term lung health, particularly as the winter months approach.
The Humanarium serves as a free, accessible gateway for the public to explore health science. This second rolling exhibition features collaborative expert input to ensure families, individuals, and patient communities can access trusted medical information.
‘Breathe’ is located at 118 St Stephen’s Green, Dublin, and is free to the public. The space and accompanying cafĂ© are open from 7:30am to 4:30pm Monday to Friday, and from 10:00am to 3:00pm on Saturdays.
