The HSE Sexual Health & Crisis Pregnancy Programme (SHCPP) has been piloting an online STI testing service in partnership with online provider SH:24, with funding from the Sláintecare Integration Fund. Individuals who require further testing and treatment are referred to public STI clinics, ensuring a seamless individual experience.
The project has been piloted in the counties of Dublin, Cork and Kerry, allowing anyone with an address in these counties to order a free STI test to their home.
- Nearly 14,000 STI test kits were ordered during the pilot (with almost 5000 test kits ordered in the first 24 hours!)
- 703 STIs have been diagnosed to date (8% reactive rate)
- 56% of service users had never accessed a sexual health service before
- 99.4% of users rated the service 4 or 5 out of 5
One user of the pilot testing service said “without this testing opportunity I wouldn’t have known that I needed treatment. I’m very grateful for this wonderful project.”
An evaluation report of the service is currently being finalised. The online STI testing service is currently available in counties Dublin, Kildare, Wicklow, Cork and Kerry. Visit sh24.ie to order a test.
