Financial Incentives to Support Quitting Smoking and Vaping

Researchers at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI), are inviting people across Ireland to take part in a short survey exploring financial incentives to support quitting smoking and vaping.

Smoking remains one of the leading causes of preventable illness and death. While smoking rates have declined, nicotine use remains high, particularly with the growth of vaping. Both smoking and vaping involve nicotine, which is highly addictive, and many people who use nicotine want to quit but find it very challenging.

International evidence suggests that financial incentives such as shopping vouchers can increase the number of people who successfully quit. Some studies show that quit rates may improve significantly when incentives are offered alongside behavioural support and medication.

The research team wants to understand how people in Ireland feel about potentially adding financial incentives
