Through the staff HSE Health & Health wellbeing budget we are delighted that from January 1st 2020 the staff health and wellbeing initiative has now secured funding for staff to access free stop smoking medications (i.e. a free GP visit and a prescription for a drug called Varenicline (Champix) and or combination nicotine replacement therapy). This will be for the recommended 12 week treatment period. Tobacco users who access the standard 12-month quit support programme and use evidenced based medication to support their quit attempt are 4 times more likely to be successful. Find out how our support programme works here.
We know that quitting smoking can be hard, particularly at the start when you are coping with cravings and changing your routine but with the right support and preparation you can succeed. You are up to four times more likely to quit if you use stop smoking medication and our services and if you can stay smoke free for 28 days straight you increase your chances of finally quitting for good 5 fold. Stopping smoking is the single most important thing a person can do to improve their health.
