New HSE Public Health Strategy 2025–2030 launched

The HSE has launched a new Public Health Strategy 2025–2030, setting out an ambitious vision for the best possible health and wellbeing for everyone in Ireland. The strategy aims to improve health outcomes, reduce inequalities, and strengthen Ireland’s public health system through collaboration, evidence-informed practice, and innovation.

The strategy prioritises delivering a high-quality integrated public health function, protecting the population from health threats, acting on the wider determinants of health, reducing health inequalities across the life course, strengthening health services with an emphasis on prevention and early intervention, and using health information, research and innovation to drive better outcomes.

HSE CEO Bernard Gloster thanked all who contributed and underlined the shared commitment to prevention and to achieving the best possible health and wellbeing for everyone in Ireland in a fair, sustainable and innovative way.  Chief Medical Officer Professor Mary Horgan described the strategy as a timely and bold vision that prioritises prevention, health equity and partnership to create lasting positive change for individuals, families and communities.

Chief Clinical Officer Dr Colm Henry said the strategy provides clear direction and empowers the public health workforce to deliver sustainable improvements in population health, wellbeing and resilience. National Director of Public Health Dr John Cuddihy highlighted how it reflects lessons from recent challenges and is shaped by the voices of patients, communities and partners across society.

The HSE Public Health will now work closely with government departments, postgraduate training bodies, academia, community organisations and many other partners, with the public at the centre of all activity.
